2010 WMYSL Competitive Team Tryouts

ALL PLAYERS who want to play for a Competitive team are expected to attend these initial tryouts. If a conflict prevents you from attending, please contact us at wmtryouts@me.com.  We will probably schedule an additional tryout in late April by invitation only. (see 2010 Tryout Schedule for dates/times).

COMPETITIVE SOCCER is for players seeking a greater level of play and commitment than a House or Rec. program. Each team is managed by a parent-coach and has a professional trainer dedicated to improving each player’s individual skills while developing their ability to play as a team.  Most teams begin practice during the summer and play at least one tournament in August.  League play runs  September through November, and on most weekends during the season the team will play on Saturday and Sunday. Teams try to attend at least two tournaments during the season. This allows the players to play in over 20 games.  Home games and practices are at White Hill or Manor Schools in Fairfax.  League play comprises the area from Mill Valley to Ukiah.

TEAM ORGANIZATION: Our teams are set up on the model of VOLUNTEER COACHES, usually players parents, partnered with PAID PROFESSIONAL TRAINERS. The trainers that work with our teams are former professional or college players that have been teaching soccer for many years. At the tryouts, each team will provide information on  the expectations of the coaching staff, costs, training philosophy, schedule and time commitments by the players.

FEES: Tryouts are free. The approximate cost per player for our competitive teams is $700. This covers uniforms, registration, tournament fees, team equipment, referees and the trainer (see Player Costs for more info).

These forms will be also be available at the check in tables on the day of the tryout: NO PARENT SIGNATURE, NO TRYOUT, NO WAY!

101 Glen Drive:  Heading west on Sir Francis Drake Blvd about a mile past downtown Fairfax on the right. If you start up White’s Hill, you missed it. For link to online map, see Fields-Maps.
